They will shut their eyes forever

With the echo of your footsteps and the door partly opened
My heart beats faster and I find you again.
When we are hand in hand, I forget about everything else.
It's almost as though time has stopped.

But, one of us will go first.

One day, one of us will be too tired.
They will go, almost happy to be first.
While the one left behind can only
wait to be reunited in heaven.

And as I picture your hand in mine

Dedicated to all the families that have a loved
suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Even though
this disease robs a person of their dignity over a
long period of time and they seem to forget, the
eyes may tell a loved one more than they can
say in words.
