Christmas Without Daddy ~ Anchored In Him ~ Christmas 2003

Christmas Eve is fast approaching, with the season's joy
Cookie baking, gifts to wrap and Christmas plays to see
All the decorations . . . hanging 'round the town
Twinkling lights and tinsel, adorn our Christmas tree

We've taught our little children the meaning of the season
About baby Jesus born in Bethlehem, sleeping on the hay
But this year we'll be celebrating Christmas without Daddy
Because you had to go . . . so very far away

My dear husband it will almost be a year since you've been gone
We thought when you were deployed, for Christmas you'd be home
But your country called you, to protect the freedom of the world
Because the danger still lurks, this year at Christmas we're alone

I want you to know, the children will be happy that day
Because they're too young to understand, why you went away
Oh, I show them your picture daily, and their little kisses smudge the frame
But they just know that Daddy is a soldier and he loves them just the same

I'll paint my Christmas blue this year, and carols we will sing
We'll pray for God above to protect you and your friends
Keep you all 'neath angels' wings, give strength to face what may
Your country is beside you praying for your safety to the end

And while we love you dearly and want you to come home
We know that sometimes God decides when to call a soldier home
Though we may have Christmas without Daddy, and feel a little blue
We know should God call for you, borne on wings of angels you'll be taken home

A soldier fights with all his might, to protect what God has given
The right to pray and live with freedom all across the land
And if in the fiercest battle, sometimes the fight is lost
God sends down His angels to give a helping hand

Yes, we love you dearly and want you to come home
But sometimes God decides when to call a soldier home
Though we may have Christmas without Daddy, and feel a little blue
We know should God call for you, borne on wings of angels you'll be taken home.
